allo-APZ2-ACLF is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy developed by RHEACELL GmbH & Co. KG for the treatment of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). The product consists of highly purified, skin-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that express the ATP-binding cassette member 5 (ABCB5) marker. These ABCB5-positive MSCs are isolated from the dermal tissue of healthy donors and expanded under GMP conditions. The therapeutic mechanism involves the intravenous administration of these cells, which are intended to modulate systemic and local immune responses and potentially promote liver regeneration in patients with severe liver failure. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase I/IIa clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy (measured by changes in the MELD score) in patients with grade 2 and 3 acute-on-chronic liver failure.
