Overview

Allocetra is an off-the-shelf, donor-derived cell therapy developed by Enlivex Therapeutics. It consists of apoptotic mononuclear cells designed to leverage the body's natural mechanism for maintaining immune homeostasis: efferocytosis. When administered, these apoptotic cells are recognized and engulfed by macrophages and dendritic cells, triggering a signaling cascade that suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha and IL-6) and promotes the release of anti-inflammatory factors. This "reprogramming" of the innate immune system is intended to treat life-threatening hyper-inflammatory conditions, including sepsis, COVID-19-associated cytokine storms, and multiple organ failure, as well as chronic inflammatory diseases like osteoarthritis.
