Alloferon is a synthetic 13-amino acid peptide originally derived from the hemolymph of the blowfly *Calliphora vicina*. It acts as an immunomodulator by stimulating the production of endogenous interferon-alpha and interferon-gamma and increasing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells. It is primarily used for the treatment of viral infections such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), where it is marketed under the brand name Allokin-alpha. Additionally, research has demonstrated its potential as an adjuvant in oncology, specifically for pancreatic cancer, by downregulating the SLC6A14 amino acid transporter and reducing glutamine uptake in tumor cells.
