Overview
Allogeneic activated natural killer (NK) cells are an adoptive cell therapy consisting of NK cells derived from a healthy donor, which are then expanded and activated ex vivo before being infused into a patient. In the context of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), these cells are being investigated for their potential to exert a graft-versus-leukemia effect, particularly in patients who are resistant or insensitive to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). The activation process typically involves cytokines like IL-2 or IL-15 to enhance the cells' cytotoxic activity against malignant cells. This specific program is being evaluated by the Hematopathy Hospital of Xi'an International Medical Center Hospital in a Phase 0 clinical trial in China.
