Overview

Allogeneic adenovirus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) is an 'off-the-shelf' adoptive cell therapy developed by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. This biologic therapy consists of donor-derived T lymphocytes that have been expanded ex vivo and sensitized to target adenovirus antigens. The therapy is designed for immunocompromised patients, such as those who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, who develop life-threatening adenovirus viremia or disease. By using banked, HLA-matched CTLs from third-party donors, the treatment provides immediate antiviral immunity without the delay of custom manufacturing or the high risk of graft-versus-host disease typically associated with unselected donor lymphocyte infusions.
