Allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (aMSCs) are an investigational cell therapy being evaluated for the treatment and prevention of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in high-risk kidney transplant recipients. These cells are harvested from the adipose tissue of healthy donors and expanded ex vivo. In the context of kidney transplantation, they are delivered directly into the kidney allograft or via infusion to leverage their potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties. The primary goal is to reduce the incidence of delayed graft function (DGF) and improve long-term outcomes for organs from deceased donors with a high Kidney Donor Profile Index (KDPI).
