Allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (allo-A-MSC) are an experimental cell therapy developed by the Mayo Clinic for the treatment of kidney transplant rejection. These multipotent cells are harvested from donor adipose tissue and possess significant immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In the clinical setting, specifically within the AMSCAR trial, these cells are administered via a single intra-arterial infusion directly into the renal artery of the transplanted kidney. The therapeutic objective is to reduce inflammation and treat both antibody-mediated and cellular rejection by modulating the host's immune response and promoting a pro-regenerative environment within the graft, potentially offering a localized treatment option that minimizes the need for systemic immunosuppression.
