Overview

This investigational cell therapy involves allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) for the treatment of deep second-degree burn wounds. Developed by Dr. Evangelos V. Badiavas and colleagues at the University of Miami, the therapy utilizes donor-derived stem cells to accelerate wound closure and improve regenerative outcomes. The mechanism of action is multifaceted, involving the secretion of paracrine factors that stimulate fibroblast proliferation, promote angiogenesis, and modulate the host's immune response to optimize the healing environment. Clinical studies have evaluated the therapy at multiple dose levels, administered via subcutaneous injection or topical application under a transparent film dressing. Early-phase results have demonstrated 100% wound closure with minimal fibrosis and evidence of re-pigmentation and hair follicle restoration.
