Overview

Allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) are a type of multipotent cell therapy derived from the bone marrow of healthy donors. These cells are characterized by their ability to differentiate into various mesodermal lineages (such as osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and adipocytes) and their potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties. Unlike autologous cells, allogeneic MSCs are "off-the-shelf" products that do not require donor-recipient HLA matching due to their low immunogenicity. They function primarily through paracrine signaling, secreting a variety of cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles that modulate the immune system (e.g., inhibiting Th1/Th17 cells, inducing regulatory T cells) and promote tissue repair. They are being investigated for a wide range of conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, degenerative disc disease, neurological disorders like Parkinson's, and dental pulp regeneration.
