Allogeneic bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) are an investigational cell therapy developed by the Universidad Central de Venezuela for the treatment of pulp necrosis and chronic apical periodontitis in immature teeth. This therapy involves the transplantation of allogeneic BM-MSCs, often in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), into the root canal of affected teeth. The mechanism of action relies on the multipotent capacity of MSCs to differentiate into odontoblasts (dentin-forming cells) and osteoblasts (bone-forming cells), promoting the regeneration of dental pulp tissue and the completion of root development (apexogenesis/apexfication) in children and adolescents. This approach aims to provide a biological alternative to traditional apexification methods, potentially restoring tooth vitality and structural integrity.
