Allogeneic bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells are used as a therapeutic intervention in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). In the context of the RIC Allo-SCT for Pediatric CML trial conducted by St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung, these cells are administered following a reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) regimen consisting of fludarabine, melphalan, thiotepa, and anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG). The goal of the transplant is to replace the patient's diseased bone marrow with healthy donor stem cells, potentially offering a curative alternative to lifelong tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy. The protocol includes post-transplant monitoring and potential donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI) to manage residual disease.
