Allogeneic brown adipose stem cells (BASCs) are a cell-based therapy being developed by BioRestorative Therapies, primarily under their ThermoStem platform. These cells are derived from brown adipose tissue, which is specialized for thermogenesis and metabolic regulation. The therapy is designed to be administered allogeneically to modulate metabolic and inflammatory pathways. In metabolic indications like Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity, the cells are intended to improve glucose homeostasis and energy expenditure. For inflammatory conditions such as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and Long Hauler Covid, the cells are hypothesized to exert immunomodulatory effects. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
