Allogeneic cultured fibroblasts is an investigational cell-based therapy developed by Research Infrastructure Support Services (RISS) for the treatment of recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB). RDEB is a severe inherited skin-blistering disorder caused by mutations in the *COL7A1* gene, which result in a deficiency of type-VII collagen and defective anchoring fibrils at the dermal-epidermal junction. The therapy consists of donor-derived (allogeneic) human dermal fibroblasts that are expanded in vitro and administered via intradermal injection. The mechanism of action involves the upregulation of *COL7A1* gene expression and the subsequent production of functional type-VII collagen at the dermal-epidermal junction, which helps to restore skin structural integrity and promote wound healing.
