Overview

An experimental adoptive cellular immunotherapy consisting of allogeneic cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and recombinant human interleukin-2 (aldesleukin). Developed by researchers at the University of Colorado, Denver, this therapy is designed to treat recurrent primary brain tumors, including glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma. The CTLs are derived from MHC-disparate donors and sensitized against the patient's major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins to selectively target and eliminate glioma cells. The treatment is administered directly into the tumor cavity (intracavitary) following surgical resection, with IL-2 provided to enhance the survival and activity of the infused T cells.
