Overview
This investigational cancer vaccine is a cell-based immunotherapy consisting of hybrid cells created by the electrofusion of allogeneic dendritic cells (DCs) from healthy donors with autologous renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cells from the patient. By combining the potent antigen-presenting capabilities of dendritic cells with the full spectrum of patient-specific tumor antigens, the vaccine aims to overcome immune tolerance and elicit a robust, multi-antigenic T-cell response against metastatic RCC. Developed by Genzyme (now part of Sanofi), the therapy was evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for Stage IV renal cell carcinoma, where it demonstrated safety and evidence of immunological and clinical activity in some patients.
