Allogeneic fecal microbiota is a therapeutic approach that involves transplanting fecal matter from a healthy donor into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient to restore gut microbiota diversity and function. The procedure directly modifies the host gut microbiome composition to restore diversity and gut homeostasis. It can be delivered via various routes including the upper gastrointestinal tract (using esophagogastroduodenoscopy, nasogastric or nasoduodenal tube, oral capsule) or lower gastrointestinal tract (via colonoscopy or enema). The source of fecal material is from a related or unrelated healthy donor (allogeneic), as opposed to autologous FMT where the patient's own previously collected stool is used.
