Allogeneic fibroblast injection is a cell therapy product being developed by the Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine for the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). The therapy involves the isolation and expansion of fibroblasts from discarded human foreskin tissue, which are then formulated for injection into the degenerative disc. The mechanism of action involves inducing fibrotic stabilization of the intervertebral disc to restore structural integrity and alleviate lumbar back pain. Current development efforts are focused on standardizing manufacturing and quality control processes using tissue samples obtained from male circumcision procedures.
