Allogeneic gamma-delta T cells are an innovative cellular immunotherapy derived from donors rather than patients themselves. These cells possess unique properties that make them particularly suitable for cancer treatment. Gamma-delta T cells combine features of both adaptive and innate immunity, allowing them to recognize and eliminate tumor cells while sparing normal cells. Unlike conventional alpha-beta T cells, gamma-delta T cells function independently of Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) recognition, which significantly reduces the risk of graft-versus-host disease when used as an allogeneic product. They exhibit inherent anti-tumor properties through multiple receptors such as gamma-delta TCRs, NKRs, and DNAM-1. These cells can be efficiently expanded from peripheral blood and can be further enhanced through genetic modifications like CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) integration. They are being developed for various hematologic malignancies including acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and solid tumors.
