Overview

Allogeneic gamma9delta2 (γ9δ2) T cells is an investigational adoptive cell therapy being developed by Anhui Provincial Hospital (the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC) for the treatment of recurrent hematologic malignancies following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). γ9δ2 T cells are a unique subset of T lymphocytes that bridge innate and adaptive immunity, capable of recognizing and killing tumor cells in an MHC-independent manner. This recognition is primarily mediated through the γ9δ2 T-cell receptor (TCR), which detects phosphoantigens, and natural killer receptors such as NKG2D, which recognize stress-induced ligands on malignant cells. Because their activation is not MHC-restricted, these cells carry a lower risk of inducing graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) compared to conventional alpha-beta T cells, making them suitable for allogeneic applications. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess safety, tolerance, and the potential to induce a graft-versus-leukemia effect.
