Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell infusion is a biological therapy consisting of donor-derived stem cells used for transplantation in patients with severe hematologic disorders. Developed and studied by the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota, this intervention is part of a Phase II clinical trial evaluating various conditioning regimens for high-risk hemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease, alpha-thalassemia, beta-thalassemia, and Diamond-Blackfan anemia. The procedure aims to replace the patient's defective hematopoietic system with healthy donor cells capable of producing normal red blood cells and hemoglobin, thereby eliminating the need for chronic transfusions and preventing disease-related complications.
