Allogeneic human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells (hDPSCs) are multipotent stromal cells harvested from the dental pulp of human teeth. These cells are characterized by their high proliferative capacity and potent immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. In clinical applications for severe COVID-19 pneumonia, hDPSCs are administered intravenously to address the hyper-inflammatory state (cytokine storm) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). They function by secreting paracrine factors that suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha) and promote the polarization of macrophages toward an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, while also facilitating the repair of damaged alveolar epithelial cells.
