This experimental cell therapy, often referred to as microtransplantation, involves the infusion of high-dose allogeneic mismatched hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) into patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) following chemotherapy. Developed by The Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences, the protocol utilizes G-CSF mobilized peripheral blood HSCs from donors. Unlike traditional hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, this approach does not require full myeloablative conditioning or graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis, aiming instead to induce a potent graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect to eradicate residual disease while allowing for rapid hematopoietic recovery.
