Overview

This is an adoptive cellular immunotherapy utilizing allogeneic natural killer (NK) cells derived from the peripheral blood of related donors (siblings) with the same blood type. Developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, the therapy is being investigated for the treatment of recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients who have undergone liver transplantation. The treatment involves culturing donor-derived NK cells and infusing them into patients at two-week intervals. The primary goal of this therapy is to restore anti-tumor immunity in transplant recipients whose immune systems are typically suppressed by post-transplant medication, thereby preventing or treating the recurrence of HCC. Clinical evaluation (NCT02399735) has focused on safety and dosing regimens in combination with conventional treatments.
