Overview

Allogeneic neonatal mesenchymal stromal cells (nMSCs) are a cell therapy product derived from neonatal tissues, such as the umbilical cord or placenta. These cells are characterized by their high proliferative capacity, low immunogenicity, and potent immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. In clinical applications, particularly for dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), nMSCs are administered intravenously to improve cardiac function and left ventricular ejection fraction. Their mechanism of action involves the secretion of various paracrine factors, including cytokines and growth factors, which help reduce inflammation, prevent fibrosis, and stimulate endogenous tissue repair mechanisms. The therapy is currently being investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials sponsored by Emory University.
