Allogeneic platelet lysate is an acellular biological product derived from pooled human donor platelets. It is rich in growth factors (such as PDGF-AA/AB/BB, TGF-β1, IGF1, BDNF, EGF, VEGF, HGF), cytokines and chemokines that are released upon lysis of platelets. The product also contains plasma proteins (albumin and protease inhibitors), immunoglobulins (G/A/M), minerals (sodium, potassium, magnesium), vitamins and glucose[1]. Allogeneic platelet lysate is used primarily as a supplement for cell culture media in regenerative medicine and cell therapy manufacturing to promote proliferation of various cell types including mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial cells[5]. It has also been investigated for direct therapeutic use in tissue regeneration and neuroprotection due to its ability to modulate inflammation and support wound healing processes[4][1]. Mechanistically it acts by delivering a concentrated mix of trophic factors that stimulate cellular proliferation/survival pathways such as PI3K/AKT signaling[4].
