Overview

Allogeneic platelet lysate (APL) eye drops are an investigational biologic therapy developed by St. Petersburg State Pavlov Medical University for the treatment of severe chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) that is refractory to conventional treatments. The therapy is produced from pooled allogeneic platelets and is rich in bioactive proteins, including platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β). These components work synergistically to promote corneal epithelial healing, stabilize the tear film, and reduce inflammation on the ocular surface. A Phase 2 randomized clinical trial is currently evaluating the safety and efficacy of two different concentrations (20% and 50%) of these eye drops in patients suffering from debilitating ocular complications following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
