Overview

Allogeneic pooled human faecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a microbiome-based therapeutic intervention involving the transfer of a processed suspension of stool from multiple healthy donors into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient. By pooling samples from multiple donors, the therapy aims to increase microbial diversity and standardize the therapeutic potency of the transplant compared to single-donor preparations. In the context of post-antibiotic diarrhea (PAD) in critically ill patients, the transplant is intended to restore a healthy microbial balance, outcompete opportunistic pathogens, and prevent complications such as treatment failure or recurrence. This specific preparation is being evaluated in a Phase IV clinical trial sponsored by Fakultni Nemocnice Kralovske Vinohrady to assess its efficacy as a first-line therapy in the intensive care setting.
