Overview

Allogeneic regulatory macrophages (Mregs) are an investigational cell therapy being developed by RHEACELL, a subsidiary of TICEBA and part of the Ferring Ventures portfolio, for the treatment of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Mregs are a unique, stable phenotype of macrophages derived from donor monocytes that possess potent immunomodulatory and pro-angiogenic properties. Unlike pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages or typical M2 macrophages, Mregs are specifically characterized by their ability to suppress T-cell proliferation and promote an anti-inflammatory environment conducive to tissue repair. In the context of CLTI, the administration of allogeneic Mregs is intended to reduce local inflammation, stimulate the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and prevent tissue necrosis and subsequent limb amputation. The therapy is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy in patients with advanced vascular disease.
