Overview

Allogeneic SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells is an investigational, 'off-the-shelf' adoptive T-cell immunotherapy developed by the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. The therapy is composed of CD4+ and CD8+ memory T cells expanded from the blood of healthy convalescent donors who have previously recovered from COVID-19. These T cells are stimulated ex vivo with peptides spanning immunodominant SARS-CoV-2 antigens, specifically the spike (S), nucleocapsid (N), and membrane (M) proteins. The treatment is intended to provide rapid, pre-manufactured antiviral immunity to patients at high risk of severe COVID-19, such as immunocompromised individuals, by supplementing their immune system's ability to recognize and eliminate the virus.
