Allogeneic sibling cord blood cells is an investigational cell therapy consisting of fully HLA-matched umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cells. Developed and studied by the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) in collaboration with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and Cell Care, this therapy is intended for the treatment of cerebral palsy (CP) in children. The cells are collected from a sibling's cord blood at birth and administered via intravenous infusion. The proposed mechanism of action is paracrine-mediated, where the cells migrate to areas of brain injury and release factors that activate endogenous repair mechanisms, reduce neuroinflammation, and promote tissue regeneration. Results from the SCUBI-CP Phase 1 clinical trial (published in 2022) indicated that the treatment is safe and feasible for pediatric patients.
