Overview

Allogeneic thyTreg is a cell therapy product consisting of regulatory T cells (Tregs) derived from human thymic tissue. These cells are isolated from thymus tissue typically discarded during pediatric cardiac surgeries and expanded under GMP conditions. Unlike conventional blood-derived Tregs, thymus-derived Tregs (thyTregs) can be produced in larger quantities and with higher purity and suppressive function. The "allogeneic" designation means these cells are intended for use in recipients other than the original donor, enabling off-the-shelf administration. Allogeneic thyTreg therapy aims to restore immune tolerance by suppressing harmful immune responses—such as those underlying graft rejection or severe inflammation—without the broad immunosuppression associated with standard drugs. Preclinical studies suggest that these cells have low immunogenicity and a naïve-like phenotype that may reduce the risk of adverse reactions such as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Clinical trials are underway to evaluate their safety and efficacy in controlling immune dysregulation associated with conditions like acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), COVID-19-related hyperinflammation, and prevention of organ transplant rejection[3][4][5].
