Allogeneic umbilical cord blood is an investigational cell therapy being developed by Bundang CHA Hospital for the treatment of chronic traumatic brain injury (TBI). The therapy consists of donor-derived umbilical cord blood cells, which are rich in various stem and progenitor cell populations. When administered intravenously or intraarterially, these cells are thought to promote the repair of damaged brain tissue through paracrine mechanisms, including the secretion of neurotrophic factors and the modulation of inflammatory responses. Clinical trials have focused on patients in the chronic phase of TBI, typically defined as more than six months post-injury, to evaluate the safety and potential functional improvements in cognition and motor skills.
