Allogeneic umbilical cord blood cells (CIUSSS du Nord-de-l'Île-de-Montréal) is an experimental cell therapy being investigated for the treatment of advanced metastatic lung cancer. Developed by the Centre Intégré Universitaire de Santé et de Services Sociaux du Nord-de-l'Île-de-Montréal, the therapy involves the infusion of donor-derived immune cells obtained from umbilical cord blood (UCB). This approach is part of the Radio-Immuno-Modulation (RIM) project, which combines the cell infusion with low-dose radiotherapy and the immunomodulatory drug cyclophosphamide. The mechanism relies on the allogeneic cells to trigger a graft-versus-tumor effect, where the donor immune cells recognize and attack the patient's cancer cells. This reaction is intended to be amplified by the immunogenic effects of localized radiotherapy, which can promote the release of tumor antigens and enhance the systemic immune response.
