This is an investigational allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy derived from healthy donor umbilical cord blood (UCB). Developed by The General Hospital of Western Theater Command, the therapy targets the CD19 antigen, a surface protein expressed on B-cells. Unlike autologous CAR-T therapies that require patient-specific leukapheresis and manufacturing, this allogeneic approach utilizes T-cells from umbilical cord blood units, allowing for an "off-the-shelf" product. Preclinical data indicate that these UCB-derived CAR-T cells exhibit low immunogenicity and a reduced potential for graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) while maintaining potent anti-tumor efficacy. It is currently being evaluated in an Early Phase 1 clinical trial for safety and efficacy in adult patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL).
