Overview

This allogeneic, umbilical cord blood-derived chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (UCAR-T) therapy is a dual-targeting biologic developed by Chengdu Ucello Biotechnology for the treatment of refractory systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The therapy simultaneously targets CD19, expressed on B cells, and B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), expressed on plasma cells. By depleting both B cells and long-lived plasma cells, the drug aims to eliminate the primary sources of pathogenic autoantibodies in SLE. As an allogeneic 'off-the-shelf' product derived from umbilical cord blood, it potentially offers faster access and more consistent manufacturing compared to autologous CAR-T therapies. It is currently being investigated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT06274059) to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in adult patients with refractory disease.
