Overview

Allogeneic cord blood-derived cell therapy is an investigational cell-based biologic consisting of unrelated, partially HLA-matched (4/6 or 5/6) umbilical cord blood-derived cells (UCBCs). Developed by Monash Children's Hospital and Monash University, it is designed to provide neuroprotection and facilitate neurorepair in preterm infants with severe brain injury, such as severe intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) and diffuse cystic periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). The therapy is hypothesized to exert its effects through the secretion of trophic factors and modulation of neuroinflammation in the developing brain. It is currently being studied in the Phase I ALLO trial to assess safety and feasibility.
