Allogeneic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells isolated from donated human umbilical cord tissue and expanded in culture. These cells are investigated for their regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. Unlike autologous therapies, allogeneic UC-MSCs are sourced from unrelated donors, allowing for "off-the-shelf" availability. Their lower immunogenicity and strong immunosuppressive properties make them attractive for a range of indications. Clinical research has evaluated their safety and efficacy in diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, refractory epidermolysis bullosa, osteoarthritis, and others. Administration is typically intravenous or via local implantation, depending on the indication.
