Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cord tissue (UC-MSCs). Developed by Ahmad Jabir Rahyussalim and colleagues at Universitas Indonesia and Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, it is being evaluated for the treatment of osteoporosis. The therapy is administered via local implantation (injection with saline) and aims to improve bone mineral density (BMD) and reduce pain by promoting osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development (NCT04501354) as a potential alternative to conventional pharmacological treatments like bisphosphonates, which are associated with significant side effects.
