Overview

Allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by PT. Prodia Stem Cell Indonesia (ProSTEM) for the treatment of liver cirrhosis, specifically cases resulting from Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The therapy involves the intravenous administration of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from allogeneic umbilical cord tissue. These cells are hypothesized to exert therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including immunomodulation to reduce hepatic inflammation, anti-fibrotic activity to limit the progression of liver scarring, and the promotion of endogenous liver tissue regeneration. The product is currently being evaluated in a Phase I/II clinical trial focusing on patients with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis to assess safety, efficacy, and improvements in liver function parameters such as MELD and Child-Pugh scores.
