Allogenic pooled olfactory mucosa-derived mesenchymal stem cells (OM-MSCs) is a cell therapy product developed by the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This therapeutic consists of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from the olfactory mucosa of healthy donors, which are then expanded and pooled. Administered intravenously, these cells are designed to treat severe COVID-19 associated interstitial pneumonia by leveraging the natural immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of MSCs. The primary goal is to mitigate the systemic inflammatory response (cytokine storm) and promote the regeneration of damaged lung tissue in patients with respiratory distress.
