Allogenic umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells isolated from the Wharton's jelly or blood of donated human umbilical cords. These cells possess the ability to differentiate into chondrogenic, osteogenic, and adipogenic lineages and exhibit immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties. UC-MSCs are hypoimmunogenic due to low expression of HLA class II molecules and lack hematopoietic markers such as CD34. They have been investigated in clinical trials for a range of indications including cartilage repair in osteoarthritis, treatment of full-thickness cartilage defects, recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cerebral palsy, and inflammatory bowel disease. The mechanism of action is primarily through paracrine signaling that modulates immune responses and promotes tissue regeneration rather than direct engraftment or differentiation[1][2][4][7].
