AlloMEM is a novel, lyophilized human peritoneal membrane (HPM) biologic tissue graft developed for the prevention of intraperitoneal adhesions and the promotion of peritoneal regeneration. Derived from human tissue, it acts as a physical and biological scaffold to prevent the formation of fibrous bands between abdominal organs and the peritoneal wall following surgery. In a pilot clinical study (NCT01113736) conducted at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, AlloMEM was evaluated in patients undergoing elective formation of a temporary diverting loop ileostomy for benign or malignant colorectal disease. The study suggested that the use of AlloMEM improved adhesions around the fascia and promoted peritoneal remodeling, demonstrating safety and ease of use in the surgical setting.
