The vaccine leverages iron receptor proteins (IRPs) as antigens—these are highly conserved proteins essential for bacterial survival, making them reliable and broadly protective targets. The primary indication is the prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially in women and older adults. Additionally, when administered to pregnant women, the vaccine aims to protect newborns from neonatal sepsis caused by these bacteria by providing passive immunity through placental transfer and breast milk.
