Overview
Allydone is a transdermal patch formulation of donepezil, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEI) indicated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease dementia. Developed by Teikoku Seiyaku and launched in Japan, the patch is designed to provide continuous delivery of the active ingredient through the skin, maintaining stable plasma concentrations over a 24-hour period. This delivery method aims to improve patient adherence and potentially reduce the gastrointestinal side effects, such as nausea and vomiting, commonly associated with oral donepezil formulations. By inhibiting the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, Allydone increases the levels of acetylcholine in the brain, which helps to mitigate the cognitive symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
