ALM0101

ALM0101 is a small molecule activator of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) currently in preclinical development by Alchemedicine. ALDH2 is a critical mitochondrial enzyme involved in the detoxification of reactive aldehydes, such as 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) and malondialdehyde, which are generated during periods of oxidative stress. By enhancing the catalytic activity of ALDH2, ALM0101 aims to reduce the accumulation of these toxic intermediates, thereby protecting cells from oxidative damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, and subsequent inflammation. The primary therapeutic indication for ALM0101 is acute kidney injury (AKI), a condition characterized by rapid loss of renal function often exacerbated by oxidative stress and cellular injury.
