Overview
Almasilate is a buffering antacid used for the symptomatic treatment of conditions requiring neutralization of excess stomach acid, such as peptic ulcers, duodenal ulcers, heartburn, and dyspepsia. It is a crystalline polyhydrate composed of aluminium/magnesium silicate. Its mechanism of action involves binding hydrogen ions within its polymer matrix in the stomach to neutralize gastric acid. Almasilate acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract and does not significantly differ in efficacy from other conventional antacids. It is primarily available in certain parts of Europe and Asia and may be found as a single agent or combined with other antacids like calcium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate[1][2][3][5][6].
