Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Almega PL is a vegan, microalgae-derived omega-3 dietary supplement ingredient extracted from *Nannochloropsis oculata*. Developed by Qualitas Health, it is uniquely characterized by a high concentration of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) (>25%) bound to polar lipids (phospholipids and glycolipids), with no docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). This polar lipid structure is similar to krill oil but is entirely plant-based and sustainable. It is primarily used for cardiovascular health support, specifically to manage cholesterol levels. Clinical studies have shown it significantly increases the Omega-3 Index and reduces VLDL-cholesterol and total cholesterol in healthy individuals. It was registered as a New Dietary Ingredient (NDIN) with the FDA in 2014.
