Almitrine bismesylate + raubasine is a fixed-dose combination drug consisting of two active ingredients: - **Almitrine** is a respiratory stimulant that acts as an agonist at peripheral chemoreceptors located on the carotid bodies. It increases arterial oxygen tension and hemoglobin oxygen saturation without significantly altering ventilatory parameters. This leads to improved oxygen content in arterial blood and enhanced cerebral oxygen and glucose uptake[1][3][7]. - **Raubasine** (also known as ajmalicine) is an alkaloid with vasodilator properties and acts primarily as an α1-adrenergic receptor antagonist. It improves cerebral blood flow by reducing vascular resistance[6][9]. The combination has been used for the treatment of age-related cerebral disorders (such as cognitive decline), functional rehabilitation after stroke, minor neurological disorders related to aging, certain visual disorders related to circulation, and some inner ear circulatory disorders (e.g., dizziness or tinnitus)[2][4][5][7][8]. The mechanism involves both enhancement of brain oxygenation/metabolism (via almitrine) and improvement in cerebral microcirculation (via raubasine). Clinical studies have shown benefit in cognitive impairment associated with aging or vascular causes[2].
