almotriptan

Almotriptan is a small molecule drug in the triptan class, specifically a selective serotonin (5-HT) receptor agonist. It is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. Almotriptan works by binding with high affinity to 5-HT1B, 5-HT1D, and 5-HT1F receptors, leading to constriction of cranial blood vessels, inhibition of neuropeptide release, and reduced transmission in trigeminal pain pathways. This mechanism relieves migraine pain and associated symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to light or sound. Almotriptan does not prevent migraines or reduce their frequency[1][3][6][8].
