Overview

ALN-HBV is an investigational RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic designed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is a GalNAc-conjugated small interfering RNA (siRNA) that targets highly conserved sequences in the HBV genome, specifically within the X open reading frame. By silencing all major HBV transcripts, ALN-HBV aims to reduce production of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), thereby restoring host immune response and potentially achieving a functional cure for chronic HBV patients. Preclinical studies have demonstrated potent and durable knockdown of HBsAg in rodent models, with effects lasting up to four months after multiple doses. The drug is administered subcutaneously and has shown good tolerability in animal toxicology studies[1][3][4][5][8].
